Welcome to Steve Thornburg's Technology Resources page

The purpose of this page is simply to provide references to established sources of information regarding various sectors of technology. My primary focus is on computer related materials, but some other information is included as well.  I will try to update this page as time permits, as well as to verify existing links.  The links lead to information that I have found useful either directly for myself, or in the process of helping others.  I hope this helps you in your quest for knowledge.

Resources for Professionals
The majority of the items in this list are free for "qualified professionals."  That means if your job even remotely overlaps with the topic of interest, then you qualify.  Most are links to online journals, and most of those you can subscribe to at no cost.  Some are free for anybody.  The ones that impose a fee are, in my opinion, well worth their price if your vocation is in the computer and/or information technology arena.  Some are geared more specifically to "IT Professionals", while others are more toward business, and yet others are more toward electronics and related technologies.  But the inescapable truth is, if you expect to excel in your professional arena, then you need to understand and have a working knowledge of related technologies.  An added bonus to maintaining that level of dedication is that it will look very good on your curriculum vitae if/when the time comes to shop for a change of employment.

As time permits, I will add to and/or improve the list shown below.  The list-search was hacked together in a hurry, and is not an "advanced" search (it is quite simple, in fact).  But you can choose a topic from the "Suggestions" drop-down menu, or enter what you seek in the search field.  In most cases, you can find what you are looking for.  Note that the search feature is not "case sensitive".  And the search results are not "ranked", but rather are displayed in alphabetical order only.  Given the finite number of items in the list, this deficiency should not be a problem.  I hope that this resource list is helpful, because it's here for that purpose.
If you find any bugs or erratic behavior, please tell me.  Thanks!

Most of the links below are not included in the searchable resource list above, as that list will continue to focus on links to free content, with a few specific exceptions.  Further below is a "real" search... the Google "site flavored" search interface. It allows you to search the internet with a focus on technology.

Search Engines for Technology

The search tool below queries the Google "Site-Flavored Search", which from *this* page focuses on sites dedicated to Computers, Electronics, Software and Information Technology (in no specific order).  The goal is to provide you a means to locate resources in those particular areas with as few "false positives" as possible.  If you are looking for broader or more general information, please try any or all of the search engines listed below.

Google

Read Computer Security News
  for current security information.

The search engine links below are listed in alphabetical order, not by order of "quality", nor by my estimation of performance.  Some are better than others for some types of searches.  Depending on what information you seek, you must decide which is "best" for you.  Generally, my first choice is usually Google, followed by Thunderstone if Google does not show me what I'm looking for.  But it varies greatly, depending on what topic I am investigation.  If you have a favorite technology search tool or reference source that is not listed on this page, please let me know.  Thanks!
